Railroad Earth, an interview with Tim Carbone
Railroad Earth, an interview with Tim Carbone
Create-A-Vibe and Mexicali Blues presents:
Railroad Earth
Morristown Community Theater, Morristown
Saturday, December 29, 2007 at 8:00 PM, All tickets $31.00

After over 500 shows and 6 years of touring, Railroad Earth is returning home for a few months and a big gig at the Morristown Community Theater as well. I caught up with Tim Carbone, who is in San Francisco working on a record not related to Railroad Earth, and I was able to ask him a few questions before he headed out for the evening to gig on west coast.

MA: How are you? Are you tired? How many dates have you done in the last 6 years?

TC: I am doing good I am not particularly tired, it is hard to say I am keeping busy. I am not a good parameter for the band, I have tons of other things I am doing. We did over 500 dates in the last 6 years.

MA: What are you working right now?

TC: In SF working on writing a record with Jeff Miller and Phil Ferlino from New Monsoon. The record will also have members of the String Cheese Incident as the rhythm section.

I am playing at the Connecticut Yankee in SF tonight.

MA: Is it nice to be off the road for a few months, or will you start to get itchy?

TC: We have toured a lot recently, so probably not anyone will get real itchy, we have been rehearsing and working on a new record, so we are staying busy.

MA: With so many gigs, can you pick a favorite?

TC: I would say right now my favorite was playing Fuji Rock Festival in Japan.

MA: Roughly, how many people were at that gig?

TC: About 12,000.

MA: Can you pick a worst?

TC: Oh yeah, the Nick in Birmingham, Al

MA: What was so bad?

TC: The place was a complete disaster area. It was the kind of bar that when you walk across the stage you are sticking to the rug. I wanted to get a tetanus shot after I left

MA: Do you guys still like each other? 6 years is a long time.

TC: Oh yeah, we are like brothers, just like any other group dynamic there are squabbles, but for the most part we are all on the same page.

MA: What is the coolest encounter with another musician for Railroad Earth, or at least for Tim Carbone with RRE?

TC: Playing on stage with Phil Lesh and Friends at the Bill Graham Convention Center. The whole band was on stage with all of Phil and friends as well. We went from a RRE song to a Dead song and back to a RRE song, it was great.

MA: So Morristown Community Theater, how great is it to be doing a gig with the same promoter that was doing smaller dates when you guys started? Is this gig like the hometown gig?

TC: Morristown is definitely a gig that will feel like a hometown, it was the sight of many From Good Homes gigs and it is local. Yeah it is great to work with Rob Ortiz (create-a-vibe), from the Stanhope House to the Morristown Community Theater, it is always nice to grow with a promoter.

MA: The next album, when is it coming out and what is about?

TC: We are shooting for a June release, we have many songs done, but we are not sure what direction we are going to go in until we start working it out.

MA: When do you hit the road again?

TC: We are back on the road in March. We are off to Florida for a music festival.

MA: Anything you would like to say to your NJ fans?

TC: Just Happy New Year and we hope to see everyone out at the shows.
